ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors explore new approaches such as cooperative and collaborative inquiry, followed by more structured approaches of appreciative inquiry and deliberative inquiry. Collaborative approaches focus on the process of change that usually emanates from within a group of people, or organization. When adopting collaborative approaches, it is often but not always the case that the focus of change is only related to the community who want the change to take place. Deliberative inquiry is research that seeks to change policy and practice through consultation between people and political systems such as government and local power structures. It is an approach that seeks to explore multiple points of view in a sensitive way that shows respect for different views and the ways that different people make decisions about an issue. Collaborative approaches in qualitative research are many and varied, and what they have at their heart is an emphasis on transformation, change, participation and voice.
