ABSTRACT

The third chapter examines the historical, cultural, economic, and narrative aspects related to multilingual thriller series. The case studies in this chapter consist of three highly popular international multilingual thriller series produced and/or made available worldwide through global streaming platforms. Case studies include Narcos (2015-2017), Fauda (2015-present), and Le Bureau des Légendes (2015-2020). In addition to the extensive on-screen presence of two or more languages, the fiction series examined in this chapter share common elements in their narrative form, plot structure, character types, and aesthetic choices. Multilingual thriller series maintain a complex, ambivalent, yet intense connection with past and/or present transnational histories of the nations and places where the series plots unfold.
