ABSTRACT

Power relationship in the Indian school system is taken for granted. This chapter introduces how power and identities reciprocally regulate consciousness and everyday activities in school. There are repercussions which have long-term effects on students and teachers from socially marginalized and less represented groups. Some of the important psychological aspects shaped in the social context are introduced within this chapter. The chapter specifies how the power relationship in education can be transcended into a more meaningful, justice-oriented, and dignified education.
