ABSTRACT

“Flowers Play Shadows” details a young lady’s fanciful interpretations of flowers’ shadows on a wall. Sister-in-law Qin gave the lady a pot of beautiful flowers and also chose an exquisite plate to set it on. She put it for her on the small table by the head of the bed, so her heart is locked with the flowers’ fragrance and the young married woman’s tenderness. Two oval leaves embrace prettily and three small leaves bow their heads as if jealous; moreover, they entwine each other. Standing behind is the tall and straight plant stem. The flower appears weary and its head accordingly droops lazily on the stem. This really resembles a pair of people. Within the thick growth of flowers, they lean against a tree and whisper, so intimate! As the flowers do, the tree’s leaves seem even lazier, as if intoxicated by the pair’s intimate thoughts.
