ABSTRACT

A young lady receives a letter from a former schoolmate that makes her reflect on contemporary marriage practices. There are only four brief lines, blue words gently traced on white paper. They appear so gentle, so slim, and graceful; but this gentleness, this slimness, and gracefulness encompass ironclad strength. The beginning is family and the end is family. Li is only going from a former family to a latter family. The former family is baba’s and the latter family is daughter’s. The road is not long at all. It is true that the road is not long at all. Baba drew a minimal line to retrieve his daughter who has already run quickly to the finish line. This is baba’s love; because of baba’s achievements, this journey is smooth sailing, although his daughter must hold on to hope as her focal point.
