ABSTRACT

This chapter concludes the study, briefly reviewing the poverty trap, economic growth and structuralism as applied to the Russian economy. The conclusion briefly recapitulates major findings made in each of the chapters and summarizes main results of the study. The concluding chapter also generalizes the findings and puts them in perspective in terms of both future directions for research on sustaining economic growth in Russia and some practical applications. This chapter reiterates that the book targets a specific problem of overcoming the macroeconomic poverty trap and initiating economic growth in Russia. Foreign aid does not play any significant role in overcoming the poverty trap and initiating and sustaining economic growth in Russia, contrary to what would follow from the classical poverty trap theory. The results of this study will help development economists to understand that the role of foreign aid in overcoming the poverty trap in transitional industrialized nations should not be overestimated.
