ABSTRACT

There are a number of principles which are key to understanding the SSTEW Scale. Adult relational and intentional pedagogy incorporates all of the above principles and so the people looks at them in a little more detail. Relational pedagogy: Building strong, trusting relationships with all children within the class/play room and supporting positive relationships between those children. Relational pedagogy also includes children practising developing relationships through caring for each other and being friendly and collaborative. Finally, relational pedagogy requires the educator to look out for, show respect for and acknowledge children. Intentional educators use their knowledge, judgement and expertise to organise learning experiences that are engaging for all children. Finally, while they do plan they also respond intentionally when an unexpected situation arises (as they often do); they are flexible and can recognise a learning opportunity and are able to take advantage of it.
