ABSTRACT

This chapter talks about how societal pressure forces us to choose a label and why there are so many more labels today. It discusses the marginalized population and how labels work for them—or don’t—because of their sexuality. It goes on to discuss the acronym: LGBTQ+, what preferred pronouns are and mean, what the term intersex or DSD, (differences of sexual development) means, and what gender identity means. It also talks about the positives and negatives of assigning labels to intersex children, why birth certificates now have three choices for gender and how labels help to find support groups.
