ABSTRACT

Chapter 13 discusses the reason women are attracted to women, why women who identify as gay consistently rate higher than straight women in orgasms and what the differences are in having sex with their husbands, and with other women. It discusses our Western idea of fixed sexual orientations versus ancient cultures and their accepting attitudes toward sexual fluidity. The women’s stories in this chapter describe their first same-sex experiences, some in intimate sexual detail. It also discusses the different kinds of sex education and information both women and men were given in the fifties, and the difference in having an affair with a man or with a woman. Also touched on is celibacy in marriage and how women, growing more sexually astute, are beginning to question the quality of their marital sex lives. It also discusses the differences in what men and women feel is a precursor to sex.
