ABSTRACT
This chapter deals with the Freudian attempts to apply psychoanalysis to certain problems of collective psychology, such as the origin of totemism and Jewish monotheism. We were then led to question the problem of the existence, persistence and transgenerational transmission of collective traumas, as well as the impact of these traumas on individual and collective history.
