ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the method of planning and delivering intervention in SCIP Phase 1 will be described. Phase 1 was constructed to be an introductory period of intervention that all children will participate in. It is intended to build skills that will be required during the remainder of SCIP Intervention. Phase 1 also allows the practitioner to gain more information about the child's responsiveness to intervention, allowing the plan for the main phase of intervention to be refined. The steps in planning individualised intervention and in recording information will be explained and illustrated using the SCIP Form. Examples of how to record performance in Phase 1 and how to use this to refine the child's Phase 2 plan are shown. A practical guide to using the SCIP Form in Phase 1, in conjunction with the Manual and the Intervention Resource will be set out.
