It should come as no surprise—yet time and time again, it does—digital footprints are everywhere. Of course, social media can also be our friend. Create an appropriate email account to which all college-related correspondence can filter. Clean up, take down, and unfollow tasteless posts and agencies. Think about first impressions made from your accounts—how do you wish to be perceived?
PPE (not personal protective equipment—do you think we’re in a pandemic here?) I am referring to a professional personal email. Obtain a professional and private email address separate from the high school student account email address.
Use this private email address on all college-related materials, applications, and modes of communication. Check this email account often, as important and timely information will arrive from various colleges.
