ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses the due diligence process and other value-added services provided by backers during crowdfunding campaigns beyond the provision of financial resources. In particular, the first part of the chapter aims to understand whether the success of crowdfunding-backed firms is linked to the ability of platforms to select companies through an effective due diligence process or to the value created by the crowd during the investment process. The chapter proceeds by exploring the post-campaign scenarios of companies successfully financed through crowdfunding. To this end, it provides an up-to-date review of studies conducted by trade associations and coming from the academic sphere.
