ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the positive externalities associated with the realm of crowdfunding in three different fields. After a brief introduction, the chapter evaluates the positive impact of crowdfunding on cultural and creative industries that play a crucial role in the development and competitiveness of the European economy. Then, it analyses the role of crowdfunding in supporting the transition towards a circular economy by filling the funding gaps for new business models and adding legitimacy to sustainable and renewable energy projects. Finally, the chapter moves the spotlight to one of the greatest areas of need, namely the empowerment of women entrepreneurs, highlighting the potential of crowdfunding in the democratisation of entrepreneurial finance.
