ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the 5Ps approach to human trafficking: (i) Policy dominated by TPVA's 3Ps framework – prosecution, prevention, and protection; (ii) human trafficking as a political problem and complex sociocultural and economic issue that requires a strong commitment from the top down to prosecute traffickers and support trafficked people; (iii) postcolonial perspective that provides a critical perspective on legacies of colonialism; (iv) prostitution to highlight moralising responses and trafficking's disproportionate effect on women and children; and (v) provision of essential resources and services to support survivors. It highlights the importance of interventions at the micro, meso, and macro levels and the role of social work education to prepare social workers to provide multilevel interventions and join with other stakeholders to deal with the complex problem of human trafficking.
