ABSTRACT

With the advent of the 21st century, the life and expectations regarding the NHS do need to shift perhaps radically. It is vital to create health as well as preventing disease and providing services. Causes for health are not the same as that of disease. Health is not just the absence of disease. Health policy in the 21st century needs to be very different from the industrial model of health from the 20th century. Health creation is the key to better health and most health improvement will come from outside the NHS. We need wider health policies that don’t just focus on health services and the NHS. Currently, the focus is on individual health rather than the community or the society. Healthcstaff need broader education and also learn to work better together. Many disciplines have specialist skills, but a balance between generalism and specialism needs to be struck. There are interesting models on growing health together which need to be looked at.
