ABSTRACT

Organized attempts to provide marriage conciliation services are one of the new developments of modern society. It does not very much matter whether the marriage conciliation services are provided by the state, by individuals or by organizations, provided they are competently run and staffed. Marriage counselling is a special skill that can be developed only through training combined with experience, and societies who make no effort to provide it are taking an unnecessary risk. The purpose of this book is to give some account of the widely differing types of marital conciliation services operating in Britain, and also in some other parts of the world. At early stage of the development of conciliation services author's hope is that a comparison could perhaps be useful not only to those who are already engaged in this work, but also to others who may be considering the establishment of new services.
