ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces basic concepts about bisexuality and gives context to the interviews in this book about bisexual men who are married to women. It begins with multiple definitions of bisexuality and highlights multiple ways of measuring sexual fluidity, like the Kinsey Scale and the Klein Grid. It then compiles recent statistics to quantify the current bisexual community and explain why it is so hidden, despite the fact that a majority of LGBT+ people identify as bisexual. Next, it details the unique experience of bisexual men who are married to women, including statistics showing that this group is the least likely to be out and the mental health toll this takes of bisexual men and their partners. The author then explains his own bisexual identity and journey and how this book came about as an offshoot of his bisexual podcast, Two Bi Guys. Lastly, the author details his methods and purpose for conducting the oral history interviews with bisexual married men that make up this book.
