ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the idea that people have a “universal capacity for queerness”, and that sexual fluidity might be the norm if it weren’t for pervasive homophobia and biphobia, the way it is in many animal species. The author also discusses evolutionary theory and provides a model for multi-spectrum attractions as evolutionarily advantageous, rather than a superfluous byproduct. The chapter then discusses the way that most bisexual men who are married to women “pass” for straight by default. This takes a huge mental health toll, and statistics about negative physical and mental health outcomes for the Bi+ community are detailed. Despite these statistics, Bi+ people still receive a tiny fraction of the resources dedicated to the LGBT+ community. The author then breaks down Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory Model and describes how Bi+ men in particular are affected at every level before offering some practical solutions to benefit the Bi+ community.
