ABSTRACT

Although few would argue that learners need the opportunity to develop skills beyond those related to a subject, there can be resistance from learners and teachers, and in this chapter we consider the ‘extras’ we need to include in lessons, as well as ways of reducing resistance to this learning. We explore the essential things which should be included in all lessons, for example interpersonal skills, respecting others and developing core skills such as English and maths. We also recognise the importance of digital skills and have included a section on working with artificial intelligence.
