ABSTRACT

This chapter covers the connections between economic aid and civil society organizations (CSOs) building the peace dividend in Northern Ireland and the border counties of the Republic of Ireland. It emphasizes CSO’s working relationships with both funders; the impact of their projects on local peacebuilding; the centrality of their peacebuilding knowledge and practices; and their work for equity, justice, and social inclusion. It also explores Brexit’s implications for Northern Ireland’s peace process; the Belfast or Good Friday Agreement; and Anglo-Irish, EU, and US relationships as well as the implications of local peacebuilders practices and knowledge in post–peace accord contexts for peace and conflict studies.
