ABSTRACT

The preface provides a brief introduction to how to effectively use the adult client profiles that follow in active learning using role-plays. Role-play interviews are discussed as starting with role-induction and including information about confidentiality that is based on professional guidelines and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The importance of acknowledging differences that may exist between the client and the helper during role-induction is emphasized. Differences in perceptions of the helping relationship and expectations for what the client needs from the helping relationship need to be discussed clearly to develop an effective treatment relationship.
