ABSTRACT

This chapter serves as an introduction to the book, providing a road map to the chapters to follow and the overall organization of the book. The book focuses on four generational cohorts, the younger citizens known as Millennials and members of Gen Z, comparing them to the other two major generational cohorts by population size, Gen X and Baby Boomers. We explore how each generation’s preferred media source and the major historical events during each cohort’s formative years shape the experience and interpretation of those events. We also consider the political attitudes and behaviors that are similar and distinct between these generational cohorts.
