ABSTRACT

One major premise of our book is that there are generational differences in media usage. We felt it was appropriate to examine this premise early in the book. In this chapter, we report data from our national survey on media usage by Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X and Baby Boomers. Baby Boomers and Gen X tend to use older legacy media such as television and newspapers. Gen Z and Millennials tend to use newer digital and social media. Gen Z and Millennials were also more likely to express opinions on politics or current affairs on the Internet or social media. As anticipated and predicted, our results suggest that generational differences exist between groups in media usage.
