ABSTRACT

This chapter examines political partisanship or Democratic and Republican parties, candidates and issues among the major generational groups, as well as generational units within Gen Z. We found differences in trust of 2020 presidential candidates, as younger generational cohorts trusted Bernie Sanders while older cohorts trusted Biden. Younger generational cohorts tended to express more liberal or left-leaning perspectives. Gen X was the most supportive of former President Donald Trump, had the highest level of trust for the Republican Party and had the highest level of agreement with all Republican political opinions. Republican and Democrat generational units may exist within Gen Z.
