ABSTRACT

This chapter is framed within the context of the wave of defamatory claims and litigation seeking accountability from those individuals or media that were spreading lies depicting the 2020 presidential election as stolen. By using the assault on the House Speaker’s husband, ballot drop boxes, kitty litter stalls in school bathrooms, and the Club Q Massacre as illustrations of socially mediated politics and hate speech, connections are made between the Grand Old Party campaign strategies and the whitewashing of crimes, intimidation, violence, victim scapegoating, and discriminatory legislation across red state America.
