ABSTRACT

Even if our eco village may be seen as being at the intersection, this book is more focused on the construction of single-family homes and townhouses than on apartment blocks. However, many of us live or plan to live in some kind of apartment, of varying size. Across the globe, there is a continuous migration from the countryside to the megacities. Most of the housing that is built there consists of apartment blocks, the aim being to make the urban fabric denser and thus avoid the creation of sprawling cities that destroy natural spaces. There is also the question of office buildings or collective facilities. It is therefore legitimate to ask whether the avenues outlined in this book for individual houses are applicable to these other types of constructions.
