ABSTRACT

While the solutions that we have discussed effectively limit the heat input due to solar radiation, they are not sufficient to guarantee, in all circumstances, maintenance of a temperature below the maximum comfort temperature in the habitable unit. Indeed, when the temperature of the outside ambient air is higher than that of the inside air, an incoming heat flow will be initiated spontaneously, mainly by conduction and convection. We therefore have to slow down this flow as much as necessary by thermally insulating our habitable unit. This chapter will therefore be mainly devoted to the study of the means needed to obtain thermal insulation adapted to the tropical climate, even though, on the margins, we will have to search for solutions concerning thermal transmission by residual radiation.
