ABSTRACT

Despite the efforts made to protect our house from solar radiation and to insulate its envelope from the heat of the outside air, the ambient temperature within the habitable unit can sometimes exceed the upper limit of our thermal comfort zone. In such cases, we will try to cool down by prioritizing simple, inexpensive and environmentally friendly methods, such as the management of an endogenous heat supply or the activation of natural ventilation, before bringing in more complex, expensive or impacting processes such as mechanical ventilation or, as the very last resort, air conditioning.
