ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the transnational flow of local digital online and mobile games. It explains the nature of the hybridization and/or globalization of local online games by investigating the ways in which Korean game firms develop hybrid online games. It also analyzes the increasing role of the Korean gaming scene within the global esports sphere. By focusing on the growing role of Korean digital games among global youth, the chapter addresses whether this new trend can reduce the asymmetrical power relationship between Western and non-Western countries within the gaming sphere.
