ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the recent developments in the broadcasting sector. It discusses Hallyu television programs from both transnational cultural production and transnational cultural flow perspectives. It explains the expansion of television formats (such as audience competition shows) to comprehend the major characteristics of local formats in tandem with hybridity. Later, the chapter addresses the role of domestic and global OTT platforms within the broadcasting sector in the Korean Wave context. By analyzing a few television programs from a historical context, the chapter reveals the ways in which global audiences consume the image of Hallyu and how Hallyu is represented in Korean television programs.
