ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on nonroutine problems for which the content focus is algebra, precalculus and calculus. The 13 problems discussed in this chapter include two problems at the introductory level, two at the intermediate level and nine problems at the advanced level. Each of these problems is described in detail including a sample of directions for students, processing suggestions, ideas for assessment, guidance for the teacher and ideas for extensions. Although a few of the problems are directly related to traditional academic mathematics content, the primary goal of the problems is to improve the student’s ability to solve nonroutine problems.
