ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book illuminates the strategic implications of China’s investment journey in Myanmar and their mutual responses. It emphasizes that Chinese state-owned enterprises, albeit their importance, are not insulated from risks of warfare and military conflict of varying intensity. The book provides a systematic overview of Myanmar’s engagement in the Belt and Road investment, highlighting the conflicting and intricate attitudes of the Myanmar government in its interactions with China’s megaprojects. It delves into the impact of Myanmar’s security relations with the Tatmadaw, the People’s Defence Forces (PDF), and the ethnic armed organizations on China, focusing on the Myanmar 2021 coup and China’s subsequent response. The book also provides an in-depth analysis of the development of the PDF and its implications on the security of China’s economic interests in Myanmar.
