ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an analysis of the production of scientific knowledge on radicalisation by Western social science researchers between 2000 and 2022. The analysis laid the foundations for the discussion by identifying the phenomenon under study, but also the places of production of knowledge, the languages used, the disciplines involved, etc. The author examines the publications addressing the concept of radicalisation and highlights the predominance of some of the social science disciplines and the use of English in scientific publications. The analysis of the definitions reveals that researchers are not interested in the same phenomenon and that this explanation explains most of the tensions in the literature. Overall, the chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the complexities involved in the study of radicalisation and highlights the need for a shared understanding of the term.
