ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the merits and value of using technology in the early childhood setting. Covered are guidelines for using interactive media and technology for young children. A framework is included to ensure the integration and use of interactive media and technology for young children are performed with integrity, thought for developmentally appropriate practice, learning behaviors, and best practices when integrating technology into the classroom experience. Examples of technology and interactive media appropriate for young children are listed as resources for teachers. How technology can be used to enhance adult and child relationships is discussed. At the end of this chapter are two grids, one outlines the arts with suggestions for ways to integrate them into STEM and the other is the skill grid for developmentally appropriate practices among other skill sets.
