ABSTRACT

The chapter argues that there is a character education crisis in the areas where ubuntu is touted as the central model. One of the implications of this crisis is the failure of the Ubuntu model in informing character education. The chapter reflects on three aspects that reflect this character crisis. The first crisis affects the traditional character development model, where most of the African education systems are highly favouring Western models. The second focuses on the political influence on character education and its consequences in assimilating virtues and good behaviour. The last focus is on science and technology advancement and its effect on character formation.
