ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an introduction to The World of Fallout. This chapter first discusses the general approach that this book takes in looking at the Fallout world by examining maps, design, history, and fan-created media through almost all of the various Fallout games and associated media. This chapter then provides an overview of the primary theoretical frameworks that this book relies on, discussing texts related to critical video game studies texts first and then scholarship related to video game design and world design. Finally, this chapter provides a summary of future chapters in this book, outlining the key themes and concepts in each chapter.
