Introduction

The introduction explains the Clausewitzian understanding of war and argues that this has become inadequate in view of the current reality of war and conflict, which are waged by using covert and ambiguous means. Definitions of war and common criticisms of the idea of non-military or nonviolent war are addressed. The introduction also outlines the key characteristics of 5GW and proposes a definition developed by the author.
