ABSTRACT
The third chapter discusses 5GW through the lens of the counterinsurgency paradigm, which is war within the human domain. The first part of the chapter provides a general overview of counterinsurgency doctrine and practices in order to connect them to the 5GW approach of manipulating identity and culture. The second part of the chapter is a discussion of psychological warfare and propaganda, which are used to shape the human domain. This includes an overview of common psychological warfare techniques such as black propaganda, rumors, and disinformation. The final part of the chapter explains the techniques of social engineering, which is the application of the behavioral sciences in order to shape the behavior of large groups or society as a whole.
