ABSTRACT

The final chapter introduces some ideas in relation to what can be called sixth generation warfare (6GW), which is a term that was first introduced by Russian theorists in the early 1990s. The chapter argues that the main paradigm of 6GW is strategic sabotage that attacks the technical systems that are necessary for the functioning and survival of modern civilization. The first part of the chapter outlines some of the major vulnerabilities and attack points for opponents. The second part is a discussion of how cyber warfare can be used to attack critical infrastructure, especially power grids, transportation, and logistics. The third part discusses the EMP threat, including non-nuclear EMPs. The fourth part deals with environmental modification warfare, including the use of fire, radiation, and cloud seeding. Tectonic weapons, modification of the ionosphere, and geoengineering are discussed as more hypothetical or future threats.
