ABSTRACT
This chapter imparts an understanding of basic arithmetic operations in Excel. Such operations are necessary for undertaking any study. In particular, entering a formula in the spreadsheet to perform basic operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are introduced. One of the basic functions used in Excel is the SUM function. Calculating the sum of many values can often be a complex task. The chapter helps the readers to understand performing calculations using functions such as SUMIF, COUNT and COUNTIF, MAX and MIN. The MAX function gives the largest value in the set of data. Similarly, the MIN function provides the minimum value in a dataset. the COUNT function only counts the number of cells in the data range consisting of numeral figures only. The Power function computes and returns the result of a number raised to a power. The chapter introduces a Pivot Table, a potent tool for summing up data.
