ABSTRACT

In regression analysis, the theory postulates a relationship between the variables, and analysis is performed to estimate the influence of one or more variables on the other. Regression analysis can be linear or non-linear based on the relationship between variables. This chapter focuses on the linear regression model throughout the analysis. In a regression model, interpretation of the analysis is very important. It is indeed one of the primary objectives. Regression analysis is mostly used to make predictions. The regression coefficients which are estimated from the regression model are based on the sample data and are just the estimates for the population parameters and not the true regression coefficients. The coefficient of determination is a statistical tool of the goodness of fit of a regression model to the data. The chapter addresses the concern about the ordinary least square method or the least square criterion.
