ABSTRACT

By this point, we have mapped out our best ideas for designing settlements to address the urgent challenges of the Anthropocene age. All these challenges – climate emergency, biodiversity collapse, economic and social tensions – are experienced differently around the world in varied cultures, political economies and ecological settings. We have tried to take account of this diversity by developing these ideas through debate amongst the members of a culturally-diverse authorial team, and also through feedback from testing the emerging ideas through seminars across the world – in Brazil, Canada, China, India, Iran, Mexico, New Zealand, the Philippines, the Netherlands, Russia, the UK and Vietnam. We owe debts of gratitude to everyone involved.
