ABSTRACT

In this case study, I undertake the analysis of metaphor by focusing on a specific target domain – speech – which is particularly salient in the Spanish section of the MetCLIL corpus as shown by a keyword analysis performed. After reviewing the literature on speech metaphors (Semino, 2005; 2006) in the English language, I proceed to compare the frequency of literal versus metaphorical expressions referring to speech. Finally, I perform a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the main speech metaphors found in the corpus. A revised version of this chapter has been published in Review of Cognitive Linguistics.
