ABSTRACT

As mentioned in the introductory chapter, this book explores, within each key maritime region, China and the United States’ respective policies and legislations, presences and influences, engagements with international and regional institutions, as well as relationships with regional states. These factors are analysed and compared, ultimately leading to discussions on the divergence and convergence of interest between the two countries in that region. It should also be noted that, depending on the region, there are slightly different approaches in exploring the U.S.-China maritime relations. For example, some elements which may appear in some chapters are deliberately left out or reorganised in other chapters because they are not relevant.
