ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the group processes of problem-solving and decision-making, as well as discussion the best methods of organizing and running meetings. Problem-solving techniques include a discussion of both vertical and lateral techniques, including traditional methods, such as brainstorming, and new methods, such as six hats and mind mapping. The discussion of problem-solving barriers includes groupthink, the Abilene paradox, and the Lucifer effect. The chapter also discusses means of managing conflict in groups. Important topics such as microaggressions, decision fatigue, and creativity are included.
