ABSTRACT

Bright light therapy is used for people with seasonal affective disorder. It treats depression quickly, with effects comparable to antidepressants. It has also been used with pregnant and postpartum depression in some small studies with similar results. Brighter lights appear more effective than dimmer ones. Most studies use 10,000 lux, but some lights with lower intensities have been effective. Light on the white-to-blue end of the color spectrum is most effective (3,000 to 6,500 degrees Kelvin).
