ABSTRACT

Peers and healthcare providers are the ones most likely to provide community support. Both are effective, and there are pluses and minuses to each group. Peers either come from the same community as mothers and, ideally, are the same race/ethnicity or income group. There is some debate about whether they must have experienced postpartum depression. Healthcare providers may offer support in pediatric clinics. Support can be offered over the telephone, in-person, or via a digital self-help. So far, apps have not shown promise as support interventions. However, that could change as apps improve.
