ABSTRACT

The EPDS was developed specifically to measure postpartum depression, and it is used all over the world. However, it has been used in many settings beyond its original intent and may not be valid in those contexts. Further, it is a screening scale, and yet it is often used to diagnose depression. Some variants of the EPDS have better reliability and validity than the full scale. Researchers have also identified some challenges, such as scoring and language issues. Nevertheless, it continues to be widely used in clinical practice and research.
