ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces what happens at a Humanitarian Assistance Centre (HAC), from how it is set up and managed to the daily tasks that go on, including the structured meetings and briefings. The overview explains how the governments, agencies, investigation teams and airline work together to gather vital information from families and survivors who choose to come to the centre to ensure an accurate positive identification of their loved ones. The chapter explains what areas need to be set up according to legislation and how they need to be run to support those who come to the HAC. It also shows how the various airline teams work with the families.
